Smart Home Show-Birmingham
Source: Expo-port ReporterAs a flagship enterprise of Centaur Exhibitions the Smart Home Show is the first UK consumer show to showcase the latest integrated digital home solutions. From gadgets to modernizing a home economically to innovations that can make a common man’s life easier, more secure and comfortable seems to be the aim. Digital homes including a home cinema and ultimate home offices is the target. Organized by Centaur Holdings Plc, the show was at National exhibition Center, Birmingham, England from March 22 - 25, 2009.

The Smart Home Show is backed by CEDIA (the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association). Expected to be visited by Designers & Re-modellers, Interior Designers, Luxury Home Builders, Architects, Other professionals involved & General Public, the show aims at generating awareness about new technology and intelligent appliances. Multi-room entertainment with touch control panels, remote access/monitoring and even climate control systems is what one expects to see.
Good news for visitors is that CEDIA maintains an online member’s directory. An installer provides a complete service of designing the system, work with architects, interior designers and other contractors to manage the installation and crucially, show one how to use it.
Smart Homes as Energy Savers:
The great news is that Smart home technology can be combined with green technology like the use of geothermal heat pumps, photovoltaic cells, solar panels and wind turbines. One of the core ideas behind smart homes is that equipment turns on and off precisely when one wants it. Thus, while on one hand the initial cost of installation could eat into one’s budget, the results in the long run would tilt towards the user.
Inflation vis-à-vis Affordability:
With its integrated entertainment, technology and automation and a fast growing consumer demand for time and energy saving, digital homes may actually become a reality. It still remains to be ascertained as to how affordable the venture would be going by the past records of people with high disposable income being frequent visitors. Depending on the size of the home and the technology desired, sky is the limit for a client. Also, under the present situations of recession, how well the markets will receive this new technology remains to be seen.
Presumably this market is set to explode in the next few years but regular consumers still have to discover what is available and within their means. Shows like this one may make the task of ‘where to buy easier’. A consumer expo of this magnitude could actually act as a catalyst for an ever growing consumer market that is already growing at a great pace.
For the moment, the Smart Home Show comes across as the ultimate and intelligent stop for a homemaker with the highlight being free seminars to familiarize the users with the technology.
With technology becoming an integrated part of life and almost everyone wanting to be techno-savvy, especially when it comes to entertainment, people would want to bring home the latest. Digital homes would change the way we watch television, enjoy our favorite music or watch movies within the confines of our homes. Eventually it would affect daily lives. The smart home show is set to cause something like a revolution, fundamentally altering the way we look at entertainment technology. One can hope to be more relaxed, yet in control.
