INTERSTOFF ASIA SPRING
Quelle: Neena DayalGoing by the Daily Worldwide Cotton Market Report May 02, 2009 (Global); nylon and polyester prices have shown a steep rise in China. Compared to the first quarter of the year, when the prices were very low. Such a rise can be handled by China’s textile industry by cutting its production costs in order to overcome the global economic crisis. Interstoff Asia gave centre stage to the eco-friendly and recycled fabrics, breathing fresh hope for the textile industry. Given the current scenario, an expo with such focus can prove worthy in providing better innovative options to the manufacturers and buyers, in the ailing markets, especially in the long run.
Hosted at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong, the Spring edition of the expo was held from March 18 – 20, 2009. Spread over an area of 9,000 sqm and visited by 6,987 people from 42 different countries, the event provided a platform for manufacturers and suppliers of organic, eco-friendly, or functional fabrics. The exhibition was attended by 163 exhibitors from 12 countries. The application areas ranged from Basic fabrics, Novelty fabrics, Fibers & Yarns, Functional fabrics, Eco-textiles to Innovative Yarns; and provided a wide platform for textile design, trend forecasts & trend publications. Famous brands and serious buyers attended the fair, reaffirming their faith in it. The event featured some of the finest fabrics and modern eco textiles from around the world. There was a wide range of high quality fabrics with great colors and unique designs. The Spring fair of 2009 showcased a variety of middle to high-end textiles.
Ms Wendy Wen, Director of Trade Fairs for Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd.said, “The textile industry is quickly evolving and we have proven once again that Interstoff Asia Essential is a key destination for industry professionals looking for innovation and inspiration.”
Trend boards with exhibitor’s fabrics as inspired from the Spring / Summer 2010 Directions, trend forum and an exclusive opportunity to receive professional design and consultant services from some of Hong Kong’s leading fashion designers at the Designer’s Corner were the highlights of the show. Designers like Meiyi Cheung, Bonita Cheung, Florence Tang, Michael Lau, Kevin Yeung and Lucy Shih were hugely appreciated.
While praising the quality of the show, Mr Sikander Sulaiman, Marketing Manager for Sapphire, an eco textile manufacturer from Pakistan said, “The buyers were serious and refined. They knew what they wanted to purchase and helped us expand our business.” The top ten visiting countries were Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, the US, Indonesia, Australia, South Korea, India, Japan and Thailand. With a remarkable increases in buyers from Hong Kong, South Korea, Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates.
Eco-themed Textile Fair:
Green business solutions were offered to textile and garment manufacturers and industry buyers, which focused on strategies dealing with the current global economic challenges. Fabrics made from eco-friendly materials took centre stage – 32% to be precise. Among them were Ishinco and Teijin from Japan; SFT Inc and Chungnam Knit Co. Ltd from Korea; and Landegent Clothing Consultancy from the Netherlands. Also showcased were fabrics which are multi-functional or that have a range of invisible properties. A massive contribution from various regions highlighted the importance of cost effective textiles.
Amongst the international visitors were well known names like Adidas Sourcing Limited, Burberry Asia Ltd, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, French Connection, Gap International Sourcing (Holdings) Limited, Giordano, Juicy Couture, Liz Claiborne Intl Ltd, Marks & Spencer, New Balance, Next Sourcing, Nike International Ltd, Phillips Van Heusen, Polo, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Triumph Intl, Victoria's Secret, Vivienne Tam and Wal-Mart to name a few.
Sustainability During the Current Economic Crunch:
Interstoff is a good platform to host panel discussions. It gives the big brands a chance to reach out to the industry leaders and work towards improvisation which helps the business houses to stay in market and that too at a competitive cost. This opinion is further strengthened by the words of Mr Sean Cady, Director Environment, Health & Safety, Social & Environmental Sustainability for Levi Strauss & Co “Trade platforms such as Interstoff Asia provide an opportunity for Levi Strauss & Co. to share our work with industry leaders and benefit from the strong support of industry colleagues”.
A series of seminars were offered for providing green business solutions to textile and garment manufacturers and industry buyers, focusing on strategies to deal with the current global economic challenges at the Eco Textile Asia Panel Discussion, an event co-organised with EcoTextile News from the UK.
31% of the event participants were garment and textile manufacturers, 17% were from trading companies, 15% were buying agents, 8% were designers and 7% were wholesalers, retailers and departmental store buyers. The remaining visitors included trade associations, media and other apparel textile related services.
Interstoff Asia Essential Autumn is scheduled from October 7 – 9, 2009. The next year’s Spring edition is scheduled for March 17 – 19, 2010.
