M&O January 2010: Cohabitation

Source: expoport reporter

The catchword was COHABITATION; a renewal of the concept of living together, reconcile generations, cultures, city and country. It represents the idea of sharing and looking for an alternative for a better living together. That includes the respectful behaviour towards nature and higher accent put on natural fibres. Optimism was proved through good visitor participation, as for the exhibitors, they were notably less than in January 09.

Trends for the Happy Beginning of the Year
Ethnic elegance, and house textiles with an accent on natural fibres, as presented for instance by Le Chat and Les Flaneuses; bright colours everywhere, to cheer up the cold time of the year, as fuchsia, turquoise, coral, green, shown in the collections of Himla, Jacquard français, Vanderschooten Group, Jean Vier, Garnier Thiebaut, BVT, Linum and Tissage Moulet.

The Influence Itinerary
The design sector was throughout powerfully present, presenting Philippe Starck and Jaime Hayon from Spain – who has been Guest of Honor to the Interieur Kortrijk trade-show 2008. Vincent Grégoire, the director of the “art of living” department of Nelly Rodi presents La Coopérative – Nelly Rodi had been present in the September edition of Maison&Objet, too, with an unforgettable exhibtion. So, there are old friends to be seen and, of course, great designers as Sam Baron, Gilles Belley and many other designers of the year.

MAISON&OBJET éditeurs (Hall 5B)
The MAISON&OBJET éditeurs proves to be a great showcase and market tool for the international launch of new collections. Refinement in the product release presented in unusual stand designs have been well received by many foreign puchasers, mainly from Italy, Portugal and Spain and newcomer countries as Kasakhstan, for instance. Patrice Marraud of Grottes d’Elitis is present here, since the last 12 years; Decortex and Robert Allen to be named, too, as habitués. Nevertheless, the number of exhibitors has been decreasing, comparing to the last editions. A parallel event, the DÉCO OFF editors’ exhibition - promoted by MAISON&OBJET, too - taking place in Paris almost at the same time in January, 21st to 25th, has attracted many great names: JAB, RUBELLI, DEDAR, GASTON Y DANIELA, LELIEVRE, to name some of the 67 editors that have been present.

NEW: The January option to furniture exhibitors: Côté Meuble (Hall 5C) and Côté Déco (Hall 4)
The current switching of the MEUBLE PARIS show to September 2010 has offered an opportunity to furniture exhibitors at large to take advantage of the Côté Meuble and other sectors of the MAISON&OBJET in January. The period furniture exhibitors, for instance, installed at the Côté Déco Références: GRANGE MEUBLES, MICHEL FERRAND, COLLINET, BARTEL, ECHEVARRIA and other - mostly French – period furniture companies have used this new exhibition platform for a start. Côté Meuble is a 100% furniture sector and some of the exhibitors are ALD PARIS, AMBIANCE TIFFANY, ANTHEA and ARTESPINA. It has been a valid start, so far, and it remains to be seen how this platform will be accepted in future.

Now! Design à vivre displayed a strong Italian presence
In January, a lot of well-known manufacturers came to MAISON&OBJET from Italy, as for instance the MDF ITALA, the FORMITALIA GROUP, CERRUTI, the FIAM ITALIA, TACCHINI ITALIA and many more prestigious design companies and designers have presented their products along the unknown but as well fascinating newcomers as PETITE FRITURE.

MAISON&OBJET in numbers
In the January edition of the MAISON&OBJET trade-show, new optimism displayed the 13% higher visitor participation, namely the average of 12% French and 14% foreign participation. The most represented foreign countries were by far Italy with more than 18%, Belgium with more than 9%, UK with 8,5%, Germany with almost 8%.
On the exhibitor side, there were 2,809 companies, about 650 less in comparison to Jan 09, occupying a net area of 146,500m² which was 16,500m² more than at the same edition 2009.

NEW: The e-Plan
A new service named e-Plan has been made available to all visitors who wish to personalize their itinerary. In 3 steps it helps to prepare a visit. The research part memorizes favorite searches, selects and puts favorite exhibitors in first and second range patterns into the e-plan. It directly locates the exhibitor, exploring the interactive floor plans of the halls. The visitor is able to add comments, put down appointments, contacts, whatsoever. These informations remain available throughout the whole trade-show period and will be reactivated if the visitor recalls on them in case of a future visit to the following edition of the MAISON&OBJET trade-show. An interactive floor plan makes it possible to explore the halls and finally, a pdf of the personalized e-Plan is laid out for every hall with the marked areas and the selected stands, immediately to find. The whole service costs 10€ taxes included. For 39€, there is the whole package including the official show catalogue.

The next edition of MAISON&OBJET will take place from September 3rd to 7th 2010.
