Preview: PROPOSTE 2010 launches the Year of Interior Textile!
Source: Stela PopescuThe Proposte's 18th edition is to take place in May, 5th -7th at the Villa Erba in Cernobbio nearby the beautiful Lake Como.
The opening of one of the worldwide leading high-end fabric trade-shows represents always a major event: here, curtains and fabric collections are presented in a world preview and bound to set the trends for the textile industry in every single market. But Proposte takes more action: organizing a round table with outstanding representatives of Manufacturers, Architects (!), Designers, Retailers and the Press. The slogan: May the Year 2010 be the Year of Furnishing Textiles

The global designer Karim Rashid has designed the Proposte announcement page spotting onto the very trend colours and on the tactile element coming forth, this spring!
Proposte: not only the market-place for future trends in fabrics, it places conceptual discussions and decisions into greater context
Along with manufacturers of upholstered furniture, textile stylists, architects and distributors, this year will be dedicated to the place fabrics should occupy in the future, using industrial facilities and markets in complete evolution.
The exhibitors seem to respond to last year's call by the Proposte for celebrating the International Year of Natural Fibres and sharing the main common theme of Apparent Simplicity and Naturality. The motto is "take interior textile from the edges of design right to the core of the conception process", as Mr. Sergio Coccia, technical manager of the Italian magazine Arredo e Design put it.
The Milano Round Table
On this scope, a round table was held in Milan, on February 25th 2010 about this year's provocative theme: Do architects love fabrics? Piercarlo Viganò, Chairman of Proposte, was one of the speakers. Under the moderation of Sergio Coccia, prominent architects, members of industry and commerce and publishing houses commented on the future of fabrics. The Architects Piero Lissoni, Ettore Mocchetti (Editor of AD), Marco Piva and Italo Rota were among the presents. Giovanni Anzani, Managing Director of Poliform and newly-appointed Chairman of Assarred, Nicola Fabrizio, Textile Designer owner of Dedar and Chairman of Aneta, Massimo Riccio, distributor and textile designer, Managing Director of Acro Texture, Pier Cipriano Rollo, Business Studies and Strategies Corporate Director for Fincantieri of Trieste.
Main questions and targets
The main subjects discussed were: Why has the role of fabrics become obscured somehow throughout the centuries? Though quantities remained more or less constant, why has fabric lost its importance? Why have young generations grown so distant? The target is to understand the relationship between fabric and furnishing and promote the Italian excellence, with its creativity, technological innovation and trading capacity at its strong points. The need for a collective thrust is put forward, to bring back splendour to the fantastic communication tool that fabric is. A big step forward to the recognition and legal upgrading of high end fabrics is the final adoption of the Made in Italy – certification process.
Made in Italy - Certification process enabled!
A significant change to Italian quality labelling has been finally propelled 2010, on February, 16th. Not small a problem was there to face: formerly, no binding certification ruled the brand Made in Italy. This had negative effects on the quality assignment of products which lacked legal standards. For instance, plagiators could not be tackled. This uncomfortable situation has now changed:
Based on the Reguzzoni/Versace Law, the Italian Chamber of Deputies has nearunanimously approved the Made in Italy label on products out of the furnishing fabrics, clothes, foot wear and leather goods sector: The new law states that "the manufacturer must provide clear concise indication about the compliance of the manufacturing processes with the standards in force applying to work, product hygiene and safety certificates, exclusion of underage labour, respect of European norms in compliance with environmental protection international agreements"(Corriere della Sera, 2009, Dec.11th). The Made in Italy label will be used only on products manufactured in Italy or with at least two production phases made in Italy and when the other phases can be traced. Again, the longeviety of brand protection has now been extended from 25 to 70 years folllowing the death of the brand owner.
Proposte in numbers
In 2010, 103 exhibitors will occupy 6,300 m² exhibition space. 53 companies are from Italy and 50 from other European countries: 16 strong exhibitors arrive from Belgium, 11 from France, 9 from Spain and 5 from the United Kingdom. From Germany we will see Delius, Müller Zell, Gebr. Munzert and Pongs. Other exhibitors will come from the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.
