Light+Building 2010: Target surpassed
“There is an enormous demand for energy-efficient light and building technology worldwide. And this is confirmed by the impressive results of the 6th Light+Buildingâ€, says Dr. Michael Peters, boardmember of Messe Frankfurt.“ More than 180,000 visitors (2008: 167,000) made their way to Light+Building 2010, which closed its doors on 16 April 2010. This is an increase of eight percent compared to the previous event two years ago.

More than 2100 exhibitors
Under the motto of energy efficiency, 2,177 manufacturers (2008: 2,173) from all over the world presented their latest products and trends for the lighting, electrical engineering and house and building automation sectors at the fully booked-up Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre.
8 % more visitors than 2008
The increase in the number of visitors came equally from home and abroad. Altogether, international trade visitors accounted for over 43 percent of the total so that almost one in two visitors came from outside Germany. After Germany, the five leading visitor nations at Light+Building 2010 were The Netherlands, Italy, Austria, France and Great Britain. Significant increases in visitor numbers came from North and South America and Asia.
The most important group of visitors came from the trade and once again accounted for almost one in four of the total of over 40,000 visitors. Also well represented apart from the trade and industry were architects, lighting planners and engineers.

Main topics were light at home and in public, energy efficiency and e-intelligence
The fair left no doubt that nothing works without electricity! And visitors could verify this claim for themselves at the ‘E House’ of the electrical-installation trade – and this applies to all segments, from LED lighting and e-mobility, via energy saving for electrical equipment, to building-system technology. The numerous discussions left no doubt that the sector’s future-oriented topics – energy efficiency and intelligent electrical applications – were well received by the public.”
Trade and industry very content
Both the trade and industry see the course of business and results of the Light+Building trade fair in an equally positive light.
Friedhelm Loh, President of the German Association of the Electrical and Electronics Industry (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e.V. – ZVEI): “Light+Building 2010 has been a great success. The large number of visitors, the numerous expert discussions and the positive mood among exhibitors are good grounds for optimism. In particular, we anticipate further advances to be triggered by the subjects of energy efficiency and LED. The German electrical industry is the most important driving force for product innovations.”
Walter Tschischka, President of the Central Association of the German Electrical and Information Technology Trades (Zentralverband der Deutschen Elektro- und Informationstechnischen Handwerke – ZVEH): “Light+Building is the highlight of the electricalengineering sector. The mood, discussions and visitor numbers were all very good!
Luminale: Frankfurt shining
After the fair, trade visitors of Light+Building and members of the public had the opportunity to enjoy Luminale, a highlight that transformed Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main Region into a series of fascinating worlds of light during the evenings after the fair. More than 120,000 visitors from all over the world saw the 150 lighting events in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region, which covered a variety of subjects from LEDs and energy efficiency to the combination of light, sound and other media.
The next Light+Building will be held in Frankfurt am Main from 15 to 20 April 2012.
