Heimtextil 2008
Quelle: Expoport teamHeimtextil Frankfurt 2008: Stable and mixed feelings. Heimtextil was once again very busy. Messe Frankfurt reported 86.378 visitor entries, which would be a small increase against last year of +0,6 %. Apart from the numbers it feels really busy on the fairground, if there are 86.378 visitor entries in three days.
Activity different by hall
However
total numbers don`t reveal activity by hall, so feelings are very
dependent on the specific hall. Obviously halls 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 8.0 etc.
did not benefit that much from the counted entrances like halls 3.0 or
3.1 (By the way: today it is affordable and easy to count and assess
traffic by hall).
64 % of the visitor entries were non German
with visitors from Italy, Great Britain, and Spain as most important
countries apart from Germans. It felt also like Asian participants were
increasing, but that feeling might have been caused by rising Asian
exhibitor numbers and their staff.

Heimtextil USP1: Asian exhibitors
There
had been some changes on the exhibitors side: West Europeans getting
fewer, Asia getting stronger and stronger. India is reported to have
396 exhibitors. That is the biggest Indian Home textile sourcing base
in the world, including Heimtextil India! All Asian exhibitors together
were 39 % of exhibitors. Presenting Asian suppliers is a real strength
of Heimtextil, which is not only demonstrated by the well done grading
of the Asian suppliers, but also by giving them an additional hall
(6.0). We are wondering how long Heimtextil will maintain its "Asian
only" halls, not allowing Indian or Chinese exhibitors to present
themselves in the product categories together with Europeans and
Americans.
Heimtextil USP2: Bed and Bath Textiles
Product
wise bed and bath textiles are the USP of Heimtextil, there should be
no doubt on that. With the exception of some high end brands you find a
superb offer in Heimtextil. Also sun protection and wall covers are
exceptionally good.
Beautiful halls - and some complaints
Some halls
were just beautiful like 9.1. with the Zucchi Group as entré, and 9.2,
both together as kind of the rebirth of the former “dreamland”. Also
3.1 – this year again with JAB and ADO – was very attractive, and 3.0
has a new anchor with the Deco Team, which celebrated it`s 20.th
anniversary. However quite some of the halls were strong at the
entrance, and then levelling down or just kind of empty at the end or
at the sides. We heard complaints on that especially from exhibitors in
hall 8, traditionally a very strong “German” bed linen and bedding
hall. The shifting of mattress exhibitors to imm Cologne is obviously a
longterm damage also for the bedding exhibitors in Heimtextil.

All in all exhibitors seemed to be quite content with Heimtextil 2008, which reflects the good economic climate in Europe, and specially Germany. In addition Heimtextil is famous for the optimism, which the whole industry needs at the beginning of the year. Which market guy likes to start with pessimism into a new year?
From a visitors perspective we need to comment that Heimtextil means you walk miles, and that relaxing areas are scarce in busy halls, and plenty in quiet halls. Also we missed the massage chairs. On the pricing of restaurants and café spots we don`t comment.
Next Heimtextil will be January 14th - 17th 2009.
